On August 25, 2012, the first day of school in Baltimore, Maryland, a 15 year old child shot another child at Perry Hall High School. The victim has survived. The shooter is incarcerated. What is interesting about this sad story is the shooter had been relentlessly bullied in school, and fellow students and teachers knew it! Some human beings with limited coping capabiliies will reach a point where they will begin to lash out, become angry, mentally snap, and do something that harms others and themself. This is a sad tradgedy that has happened again. When will teachers and administrators be held accountable for ignoring bullying? How can we trust out children with school administrators and teachers?

We just had two great days of shooting new photos for the launch of the GiftofNiceness.com website. Thank you to all the parents that volunteered their children to be in the shoot.  I really appreciate their generosity.  The kids were all beautiful and wonderful.  I just posted an album with a few of the “behind the scenes” photo on the facebook page, (www.facebook.com/giftofniceness). If you don’t already follow gift of niceness on facebook please consider doing so. The photos will be used in upcoming campaigns to bring awareness of the importance of kindness, empathy, understanding, and niceness to make our society a more civil environment.  To combat bullying in our society, we need to begin teaching our children patience, and to respect differences when they encounter them.  Embrace differences as a learning experience.  Parents can learn also while teaching their children these important characteristics that have been diminished in our society. Parents the job is yours.  We must teach our children positive behavior by modeling, reading, talking, and of course manners.  Thank you, please, excuse me… are all phrases that should be made more prominent for all of us.

Spreading Niceness

Hi,

I am new to the world of blogging. This is my first post. I am in the business of spreading "niceness". I feel that children are not learning manners, lack patience, show little empathy for others, rude, bullying etc. All negative aspects in our society. If you are shy, not an athlete, not pretty enough, gay, etc., all are now reasons to be bullied. Our young people need to learn positive behavior. We have to start with our babies. We need to model this behavior, we need to read to our children about positive behaviors that they should engage in. Start with my book Caring and Shaing. My book comes with a dvd, that is narrated by a child, sharing a positive message, while classical music is playing in the background. This is book 1, more to come!
